Snap Peas, Sweet
Also called Sugar Snap Peas. Like Snow Peas, Snaps Peas do not need shelling and the outer skin is also eaten.
They look just like normal shelling peas, but have through breeding, the outer skin is also fully edible.
Snap peas are best eaten raw or briefly cooked, such as in stir-fries or quick sautes. For a simple side dish, steam or blanch snap peas, then season with a bit of butter, salt, and pepper. Most sugar snap peas need to have the stringy seams removed before eating.
To eat sugar snap peas raw, rinse them well with clean water and use a knife to trim the end of the pea pods and destring if needed. You can then pop the whole pea in your mouth, pod and all!
Sugar snap peas are a cross between snow and garden peas. The pods of snow peas are flatter with small, premature peas, whereas sugar snap peas are more rounded. Sugar snap peas tend to be sweeter and more flavorful than Snow Peas.
